Transport & Bus Routes

The University runs a fleet of busses to help students and staff members commute to and fro from regions around the city. The bus service is available over a 35km radius around the institute. A nominal fee is collected for the transportation on a yearly basis. Details of the routes and their respective timings are also available. This service is offered to provide hassle-free and safe transportation. Parents are urged to convince their wards to travel in the college busses only in view of safety issues on the highway. We also provide special pre-arranged transportation services for field trips and sporting events within the state.

Scholarships

The University understands the basic needs of its students and their financial needs. Thus to provide them with good financial assistance, we have ATMs set up on-campus and also have association with banks like Bank of India.


Therefore students don't need to look outside the campus, as the university provides them with all financial help.

Scholarship and Freeship Information

Government of India Scholarship

  • SC/ST/OBC Scholarship

Scholarship for poor and Merits students

  • Annual Income limit should be below 2,00,000/- for SC/ST.
  • Annual Income limit should be below 1,00,000/- for OBC.
  • As per government rule attendance of students in class room must be 75%.
  • One student can get only one Scholarship or Free ship facility.

Freeship

  • Students securing 85% or more marks at the public examination / SSC / HSC examination will be considered for the freeship. Free scholarship in the form of full or partial remission of tuition fee may be granted to poor and deserving students at the beginning of every term. Special concession is given to the student from economically backward communities.

Scholarships in ME/M.Tech

  • To enhance/promote the master education in India the Scholarship/ Assistance ship is likely to be Rs 8000/- per month is paid from MHRD to GATE qualified student. It is financial assistance for candidates so that they can easily afford their needs during their course and thesis work.

Guest House

It is a comfortable, modern guest house with more than 15 well furnished rooms with attached baths, a dining area, recreation area, lounges and conference rooms to host guests of the University.

Canteen

Dr. C.V. Raman University houses two canteens, a cafeteria and a dining hall on the campus. Strictest attention is paid towards, ensuring that the students are provided hygienic and nutritious food. The cafeteria provides snacks and tea whereas, the dining hall is meant for lunch and dinner. A choice of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is available at the mess.

Hostel Facilities

The University provides separate accommodation for both boys and girls from outside Bilaspur. The campus incorporates residential buildings in close proximity to the departments, library and classrooms to facilitate easy access. All rooms are well-furnished and come with an attached bath. Mess facilities are also available for which separate monthly payment will be accrued from the respective students. The student must submit his preferences for accommodation early in the process of admission.

Infrastructure

Currently the hostel block houses more than 150 students. All hostels comprise of main office, security room and a guest house. The two boys’ blocks are called Tagore Block and Gandhi Block

Amenities

The students are provided with basic amenities like a cot, table, chair and a cupboard in their respective rooms. The rooms are spacious and airy with a full view of the lush greenery outside the block perimeters. All Common Rooms are provided with TV sets, carrom boards and other recreational and amusement facilities. The hostels have a 24 hr. water supply and a generator to ensure constant power supply to Messes and Common Rooms. The sports grounds are situated at a close distance to encourage students to stay fit by regularly playing cricket, hockey, volley ball, football, basket ball, tennis or by taking a simple refreshing run along the tracks. The basketball and tennis courts are provided with flood lights to enable students to play till late in the evenings. Hostel campus maintenance like cleaning/sweeping, pest control is outsourced. Electrical repairs and security services are available round the clock.

Dispensary

CVRU incorporates a dispensary block within the hostel premises with separate visiting doctors for both boys and girls.

Telephone Booth

A telephone booth with STD/ISD facility is available near the Tagore block.

Admission Criteria

  • The hostel admission is carried out on branch and merit basis and as per State Govt. reservation rules
  • Merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks with no backlog courses. The students with backlogs will be given a lower priority during the room allotment procedure
  • Hostel administration reserves the right to deny admission or cancel admission at any stage

Rules & Regulations

  • Ragging within or outside premises is strictly prohibited. Whomsoever directly or indirectly commits, participates in, abets or propagates ragging within or outside grounds shall on conviction, be punished, as per the rules
  • Any student convicted of an offence of ragging shall be dismissed from the educational institution and such a student shall not be admitted to any other educational institution for a period of five years from the date of order of such dismissal

Warning

RAGGING of students, physically or mentally, is a black spot on the society and is a cognisable offence. The students who have to face ragging can lose their mental stability and in turn affect their life negatively. All the students are requested not to commit such an inhuman act of cruelty and eradicate this evil from the society completely. If any student is found involved in committing or staging such an offence, then matters will be handled with much gravity. The student may be expelled and if required be handed over to the Police.

Medical Support

The Dr. C.V. Raman University has a Students Health Care Centre, located within the campus, at a close distance from the academic and hostel blocks. The centre is attended by a full time Medical Superintendent and also part time Specialists in general medicine. Consultations and medicines from the dispensary is available free of cost to all students.

The University offers health insurance policies for the students. CVRU has also tied up with a reputed local hospital at a close proximity from the campus. A team of qualified doctors is available to provide regular and intensive medical care to our students. In case of emergency, the student is immediately transported to the hospital via a college ambulance.

Industrial Training

The University organizes industrial training and visits for the final year students to industries across the country. A total of 240 students of Computer Science, Communication, Information Technology and Electrical and Electronics Engineering branches visited the following industries.

Library

The library is the hub of academic student life on campus. The Dr. C.V. Raman University houses a spacious library, stacked with more than 40,000 books, 5,000 titles and thousands of CDs, journals and reports that cover all subjects pertinent to the courses. The CVRU library consists of a Central Library and separate Department Libraries to help students and faculties alike have easy access to course and reference materials through a membership card. Besides a huge collection of books on Engineering, Science and Humanities, the library has a total seating capacity of 600 with an Integrated Information System in place. All its activities including acquisition, cataloguing, circulation and stock verification have been computerized.


The college provides a well-equipped and well-maintained centralized digital library that also has a vast section of national and international journals, magazines, reference materials and publications of renowned academicians. It houses a collection of over 200 video lectures, delivered by IIT faculties on various undergraduate courses. We encourage our students to stay updated on the latest innovations and developments from around the world. Special issues of journals, papers and CDs have been made available at CVRU. The library has a unique Audio-Video section and two Reading Halls.


The Central Library also provides photocopy services to help students retain a copy of books and journals for later references. The library is managed by trained and efficient staffs who personally guide students in selecting the relevant books, promoting a culture of collaborative learning process.

General Rules

  • Entry to the library is on production of valid Identity Card/Library Card
  • Visitors with valid passes are allowed only on weekdays from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited within the library premises
  • Silence must be maintained within the library
  • The library material includes books, magazines, journals and audio-video equipment which should be handled with utmost care
  • The library reserves the right to search any personal item and does not accept liability for loss or damage to them
  • All personal belongings must be kept on the provided racks
  • Students/readers shall not write on or damage books and journals. Before leaving the counter, borrowers must ensure that the book is in good condition and if not must immediately bring the matter to the notice of the concerned staff
  • All students are required to replace damaged or lost book by a new copy. In case the book is out of print, the member will be required to pay the cost of the book with additional charge as determined by the Librarian, subject to a maximum of 100% of the prevailing cost of the book

Anti-Ragging Cell

Dr. C.V. Raman University has a no-tolerance policy towards any cases directly or indirectly related to ragging both in the hostel and the campus premises. Ragging or any act instigating or acting as a catalyst for ragging is a punishable offence. It will be dealt strictly, according to the government legislations addressing the same.

Community Service

Dr. C.V. Raman University provides a student-centric service program, which is the National Service Scheme (NSS) and is complementary to education. This program is a noble experiment in academic extension, which inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among students as well as teachers through community interaction. This endeavor is an Indian Government sponsored program under the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. The scheme was formally launched on 24th September, 1969. During its 42 years of fruitful existence, more than 3 Crore students have benefitted from this large student volunteer program so far.
